Allegens, Asthma, and Teflon

Dear Reader,

It has now been about 3 days since I triggered my asthma attack by going into the motor home and moving things about. I am hoping that once the motor home is cleaned thoroughly, I won’t have any more allergic reactions inside of it and can continue to get it ready for sale.

Did you know that cooking with Teflon can cause a person to have a flu-like reaction? That is right. Teflon heated to about 425 degrees Fahrenheit (which is easy once you start to actually use the pan to cook something) starts to vaporize a little bit, especially during the initial use of the pan. These invisible vapors will actually kill a pet bird if you have one, and can cause humans to run a fever and have congestion of the lungs. So Teflon is another allergen.

But the use of Teflon may be a whole lot more serious than just causing an allergic reaction. According to Dr. Mercola “In particular, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), which cannot be broken down by heat, light, or microbes, have been shown to cause tumors in the pancreas, liver, testicles, thyroid, or mammary glands in animal studies.” http://www.mercola.com/article/teflon

I like Teflon, but is Teflon really worth dying for?
Dr. Mercola advocates eating nearly all raw food anyway. Of course it goes without saying that he is talking about a strictly vegan diet. So it looks like I may have to go raw to get healthy.

Good eating,
